The History of Graffiti Art Literally graffiti means the writing on the wall. It is a way for people to make a public visual expression anonymously. Most often it is an expression that is not endorsed by the authority, and is thrown up without permission.  Since the beginning of time, graffiti was meant to send the viewer a message about the artists feelings concerning society, art and politics or to mark territorial boundaries. The earliest form of graffiti was created by the cave dwellers in prehistoric times. However, the first known graffiti artists lived in ancient Rome in Pompeii. There archeologists have found examples of graffiti in the form of words that include, Once you are dead, you are nothing; Restitutus has deceived many girls; Lucius painted this, amongst many others. Usually, sects appear as the result of contradictions, misunderstandings and disputes between the members of large social groups on important matters or principles. Historically, members of sects were considered to be heretics and it was quite common practice among our ancestors to condemn and destroy them. From historical perspective, the term sect was greatly explained by famous British sociologist Bryan Williams, who dedicated his life to researching the issues of the relationships between religious minorities and sectarianism. In his book Religion in Sociological Perspective he wrote: In English, it is a term that designates a religiously separated group, but in its historical usage in Christendom it carried a distinctly pejorative connotation. A sect was a movement committed to heretical beliefs and often to ritual acts and practices that departed from orthodox religious procedures. (Williams, 1982) This term was introduced in sociology in 1930s by world’s prominent sociologists Max Weber and Ernst Troeltsch. In their theoretical works they described sects as the religious groups, which were formed to protest against some postulates or dogmas of the parental religion. Other sociologists were developing the ideas of Weber and Troeltsch, coming to different conclusions: some considered sects to be the carriers of purified versions of the religious beliefs, and the others argued that sects have â€Å"†¦ a unique and privileged access to the truth or salvation (Wallis, 1977)†. Also not only do humans n different countries dress differently, they also eat different foods, talk in different languages etc. This shows that genetics as part of the nature argument is wrong because surely if everyone had human genes then they should be acting the same, dressing the same, eating the same etc. However because this is not the case it proves that genetics cannot be what makes people human, because there is no explanation of diversity within the nature side of the nature-nurture debate. This is why culture is needed to make a person human, and culture therefore dictates what s normal between one culture to another as there is diversity through places. If humans did not have natural reflexes then the outcome would be humans would not know when to move away from danger. For example if a human being touches a hot metal spoon they would automatically flinch away from the danger of burning themselves and this is what genetics provides and not culture. Austin's Ditch: The Political Necessity and Impossibility of "Non-Serious" Speech ABSTRACT: This essay seeks to show that there are political implications in Jacques Derrida’s critique of J.L. Austin’s notion of performative speech. If, as Derrida claims and Austin denies, performative utterances are necessarily "contaminated" by that which Austin refuses to consider (the speech of the poet and the actor in which literal force is never intended), then what are the implications for the speech acts of the state? Austin considers the speech acts of the poet and the actor to be "parasites" or "ordinary language," "non-serious," and would relegate such speech to a region beyond his consideration, to a "ditch" outside the border of meaning for the performative. Derrida argues that the "contamination" Austin fears for language is necessary for its very performativity. If Derrida is correct, then the performative utterances of the state (e.g. the decree of the judge, "I sentence you...") from the biases of racial or sexual identity is also based upon an impo ssible desire, a desire that goes against the manner in which language functions. I argue that this desire for a just state cannot be satisfied unless racial and sexual identity is viewed not as "parasitic" and "poetic," but as necessary to the performativity of the state’s liberal power. There has been a notorious change or evolution on how America has change. There are four stages in which the writing of American history has passed: the providential, the rationalist, the nationalist and the professional. The providential history in the United States from the seventeenth and eighteenth, ministers and magistrates and wrote a made of form of providential history. The puritans who settled in the United States believed that they were chosen by god that led to the form of their history to a holy chronicle one. Puritans used this form of writing for all men anybody that believed in god. The rationalism, they were very different with the providential because they didn’t believed that they were only chosen by god, they believed that opinions or actions should act on reason and knowledge not on their religious belief. They were ruled by the natural law was the idea of Newton, Locke, and the French philosophers (p. 75).
